Ahlan wa Sahlan fi Al-Yakhour Hostel!

We are happy to invite and welcome you to Al-Yakhour Hostel Haifa.
In a historical building in the German Colony -the tourism hotspot of modern Haifa- and at the edge of the Mount Carmel, Al-Yakhour Hostel is a start-up project by a group of young Palestinians. It is also a meeting point for Haifa locals. As a great place to begin your trip around the country, Al-Yakhour will open up many possibilities to explore the land and its stories through the people.

History of Al-Yakhour
Al-Yakhour Building (meaning "Barn" in Turkish/Persian) is a name that we decided to reestablish to this now historic residence founded by a German templar named George Seuss in 1893. The property was initially constructed as a barn as well as a wagon and carriage manufacturing. Stabled horses here were used until the early 20th century to carry barley to the windmills. When German Emperor Wilhelm II and his wife Augusta Victoria visited Haifa in 1898, the horses from Al-Yakhour and the owner George Seuss indulged the King and Queen into the city on a special carriage made at Al-Yakour. George Seuss would carry them through the German colony and onward to Mount Carmel where there is now a Memorial cannon. Preserving its historical value and statue, the place was kept in its original form with its water well and stables unruined.
